Support Hyattsville Aging in Place
December 31, 2020
2020 proved a year of challenges for all of us, and it was for Hyattsville Aging in Place as well. COVID-19 forced us to cancel some of our traditional events and to rethink how we continue to help our Neighbors. With the help and participation from our members, volunteers, and donors, however, HAP found new and exciting ways to engage, inform, and help combat social isolation for Hyattsville seniors.
We’ve hosted online educational events about COVID-19 and long-term care. We’ve made friendly calls to check in with Neighbors and delivered care packages and a very successful holiday lunch from Franklins — via carryout. And, thanks to a grant from the Greater Washington Community Foundation, we provided direct aid to nearly 200 seniors in Hyattsville and neighboring communities — as well as to area food pantries.
For 2021, we will continue to innovate and adapt. We have an online event about reducing the drama of legal issues and aging scheduled for January 30, and we are planning a COVID-safe twist for our annual Art in Your Heart Valentine-making event. Starting in February we will work with other Route 1 programs for seniors to develop programs on the arts, history and culture.
It is with your support that we are able to help Hyattsville residents stay in their homes and remain active in the community as they age. Hyattsville Aging in Place is a membership organization and our dues are due on a calendar year basis. If you are not a current HAP supporter, please consider joining for 2021 now (dues $35 for singles, $40 for a couple) and making a donation of any size.
