On September 23, 2001, Tom Wilson from the College Park Aviation Museum gave us a virtual tour of Route 1’s aviation history. The museum’s collection contains artifacts, photographs, newspaper articles, and other records documenting the history of College Park Airport, the oldest airport in continuous operation in the world, and local aviation, including the Wright Brothers’ work here and Riverdale Park-based ERCO. We also saw the current “Tails of Flight” exhibition, featuring famous aviators and the pets that flew with them.
The event was part of the Route 1 Corridor Conversations series organized by Hyattsville Aging in Place, Helping Hands University Park, Neighbors Helping Neighbors College Park, and Explorations on Aging College Park with sponsorship from Maryland Milestones.
